Skills

While your attributes represent your natural talents and potential, your skills represent the abilities you have developed through training, practice, experience, and education.

A student with high Dexterity may have natural agility, but it is skill that determines whether they can sneak through a secure facility, perform complex acrobatics, or pilot a high-speed vehicle.

Likewise, a brilliant student may possess exceptional Intelligence, but without the proper skills they may struggle to apply that knowledge in the real world.

At Arcadian Institute, students are encouraged to develop a wide range of skills alongside their mutations. The world's greatest heroes are not defined solely by their powers. They are defined by their ability to use those powers effectively.

To create your character, allocate 30 points to skills, up to a maximum of 5 in each one at this stage.

Skills are divided into four categories:

SOCIAL SKILLS

The Art of Understanding People

Social Skills govern your ability to interact with others, build relationships, inspire allies, and navigate complex social situations.

Whether negotiating with a hostile rival, comforting a frightened civilian, leading a team into danger, or speaking before millions of viewers, Social Skills help shape how others perceive and respond to you.

Some heroes save lives with their fists.

Others save lives with their words.

PHYSICAL SKILLS

Training the Body

Physical Skills represent athletic ability, coordination, movement, and general physical competence.

These skills determine how effectively you run, climb, jump, balance, sneak, and navigate the world around you.

Many mutations grant incredible physical powers, but proper training allows a student to use those gifts with greater control and efficiency.

A powerful mutant may smash through a wall.

A skilled mutant may never need to.

ACADEMIC SKILLS

Training the Mind

Academic Skills reflect your knowledge, education, research ability, and understanding of the world.

Arcadian Institute places enormous emphasis on intellectual development. Students are expected to learn not only how to use their powers, but also how to understand the science, history, ethics, and consequences behind them.

Academic Skills allow characters to solve mysteries, analyse evidence, invent technology, uncover hidden truths, and discover solutions that brute force alone could never achieve.

Knowledge can be just as powerful as any mutation.

COMBAT SKILLS

Training for the Unexpected

Combat Skills represent a student's ability to defend themselves and others during dangerous situations.

Although Arcadian Institute is first and foremost a school, its students often find themselves facing threats that cannot be solved through discussion alone.

Combat Skills govern everything from martial arts and tactical awareness to battlefield discipline and specialised forms of combat training.

The goal of combat training is not to create warriors.

It is to ensure that every student has the confidence and ability to protect themselves when necessary.

DEVELOPING YOUR SKILLS

Every student arrives at Arcadian Institute with different strengths and weaknesses.

Some excel in the classroom.

Others thrive on the training grounds.

Some become natural leaders.

Others prefer to work behind the scenes.

There is no single path to becoming a hero.

The strongest students are often those who develop a balanced combination of skills, attributes, and mutations.

Remember:

Your mutation may be your greatest gift.

Your skills determine how effectively you use it.
